25 Jan 2014 // #8 :: Delhi

I haven't done a video in a while, and since I have plenty of time this afternoon, I figured now was as good a time as ever. Ugh! Why does YouTube always pick the.worst. image of me as it's screen capture? I can't change it on my iPad, so bear with me on that one.

I made this post on my iPad, so if you have any issues with the video, let me know. It's showing up correctly on my end, but who knows what other systems will show.

To see other videos, go to the Videos section. And please remember, I'm not videographer.

As mentioned in the above video, I met a man from London in the lobby and we ended up having tea and chatting for about an hour or so. It was nice and kept me from getting too antsy and stir crazy. I'd love to explore Delhi a little bit, but the hotel is right along a highway, and from the looks of it, doesn't have much within walking distance. There is a cool temple within about 20 km, but I'd have to hire a car and it'd be more of a day trip that I should have planned ahead of time. That's okay though -- I have a lot of things I need to catch up on that I've been neglecting while I was preparing for this trip, so I'll work on that before taking a quick snooze and then meeting up with the rest of the team after their flight gets in. And if anything, I can always just hang around the hotel lobby and people watch -- and who knows, maybe meet someone new.

Despite the smog/fog and not being able to go much of anywhere today, I'm so happy to be back in India! It is a remarkably beautiful country with wonderful and friendly people. I am super excited to see what this trip has to offer!

On another note, you may have seen this image on Facebook or Instagram:

Man, oh man. Business class from Seattle to Dubai (14.5 hour flight time) is legit! Wow. I still can't believe I got a free upgrade! Holy smokes. That seat if I had bought it outright is worth thousands of dollars... just for that leg! I got two full meals, snacks, any drinks I wanted, a chair that reclined into a bed, and a large TV with hundreds of movie and entertainment options. Ridiculous. And the service was impeccable. It'd be lovely if I got another upgrade, but I am fully resigned to the fact that this was probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

PS Notice that two of my three countdowns on the right are at zero? I think I may leave them up there for a while. I can't believe it's 26 days until I move to Ireland, but right now I'm not even thinking at all about that, and instead I'm just being present in the moment. I will relish my time in India and Indonesia ... Ireland will have to wait until I get back to Seattle.

PPS the electricity has gone out in this hotel twice since I started writing this post... should I be worried? It's a pretty fancy hotel, so maybe it's just a Delhi thing? Hmmm.
